Hello, and welcome to your new role as manager for the Customer Care group here at Redwood. My name is Ava Russo. I am Redwood's Director of Quality Assurance. As you may know, our company is a leading online retailer that sells all types of products, from cutting-edge computer hardware to vintage clothing.
In your new role, you will be leading a team of five people with diverse backgrounds. Our company is committed to treating their customers, employees, and the environment with dignity and respect.At Redwood, we believe the best training occurs on the job with the support and mentorship of your manager.
I'll be honest, I expect that the next few weeks will be particularly challenging for you given the dynamics I've observed on this team. To help you get prepared, I thought I would share some of my thoughts and concerns.
The Customer Care group has worked under three different managers in recent months, and each of them favoured a completely different leadership style. Where one person might have been more collaborative and prioritized bringing people together, the next was more distant; shying away from sharing information and group meetings. In my opinion, the absence of stable management has created a vacuum that caused certain team members to dominate discussion, and others to feel left out.
This situation cannot continue as it has been; we are already starting to see a decline in the team's key performance indicators. While we have been successfully competing with other companies in the market, one of the reasons customers keep coming back to us is the level of support that we provide. I am worried that if the team dynamic continues to be an issue, it will affect our customer service to a point where we won't be able to recover anytime soon.
