Introduction

One era is coming to an end and another is beginning $$ a process no less world changing than previous transitions to settled agriculture and industrial society. As a part of this world$-$wide transformation $($the 'global triple revolution' or GTR$),$ there are three linked sets of major changes and challenges:

The development of an education, schools, university and VET revolution, comprising mass participation in secondary and tertiary education, deep changes in teaching, learning, knowledge and technology, and the blurring of old sectoral divides in education and training

The emergence of what may be termed an economic, energy and environmental revolution, which prompts thinking, working, living and learning in radically new ways

The imperative of a health, development and human rights revolution, the three domains of which are so closely and synergistically related that they are almost synonyms.
