Introduction to Computer Assignment #1
This is your first computer assignment. Follow the step-by-step guide below to create the the company database. You will need to use MS Access to create this database. If you do not have MS Access at home then you can use the school's computers. New versions of MS Access are also acceptable. When you have completed the database you will need to upload a single file to computer assignment #1. You can also drag and drop the file to the assignment. MS Access does not have a save button for your database. The only way to save the database is to exit MS Access. Choose one company from the list of BC Companies link below and email me your choice. Each student must choose a different company. You need to create five customer records . Your customers can either be other businesses or individuals. Use full names for each customer. You will need five product records. Choose the products listed on your company's website. If no price is listed you may choose your own product prices. Finally, you will need fifteen transaction records. Be sure to list the date of each transaction in chronological order over a one month period. Create one form for each table. Create three good queries. The queries must provide good business information. Create one report from any of the three queries. Be sure to always close or exit the database before handing in your assignment or transferring it to another storage device. The Product table in my database step-by-step instructions has ExpiryDate as a field name. If ExpiryDate is suitable to your company's products then you you don't need to read further. If your company's products do not require an ExpiryDate I will explain how to change the field name. Right-click on the Product table from the All Tables list on the left side of MS Access. Choose Design View from the pop-up list. Change ExpiryDate to something more suitable to your products, such as Colour. You may also need to change the data type.
Then save the Product table. If you need more help with this please email me. The report uses a query called AllRecords. I made that query specifically for this report. The AllRecords query does not have any criteria so it will have more records. It is better to make a report from a query with more records. You can make your own AllRecords query to use in your report.
