This will urge students to make use of business rules, degrees of abstraction, integrity constraints, and logical operators to draw solutions on real-world problems. The following is a list of software applications that Computer Business Solutions (CBS) has to design databases for. Bank Management System (Standard Bank's Finacle) Revenue Management System (LRA's ASYCUDA) University Management System (LUCT's CMS) Hospital Management Systems (Queen Mamohato Memorial Hospital's OpenMRS) Insurance Management System (Alliance's KoboAnela) As a new Database Administrator at CBS, you have been tested on the following activities: TASKS: a) Choose one solution from the list above. [2 Marks] b) Give a one (1) page description of the solution on the application of your choice. The description must include (i) the problem that your application is solving, (ii) the pros and cons of the application today and in the next five years. [15 Marks] c) Assuming that Entity Relationship Model is the best fit for your solution, why is this model important as compared to other database models? [5 Marks] d) Outline the business rules in your solution, focus on the use of database data. Do not exceed half a page, at least 250 words. [15 Marks] e) Based on your business rules, draw relational schemas (at least 5, not exceeding 10) and normalize to 3NF. [30 marks] f) Present an ERD illustration of your solution in such a way that it illustrates the five (5) entities, attributes (at least 5 attributes each), identify key attributes, and relationships. [25 Marks] Page 2 of 4 Limkokwing University of Creative Technology g) Populate your relations with five (5) tuples EACH using MySQL. Use appropriate datatypes. Present your relations on NOTEPAD. [15 Marks] h) Use PROJECT, JOIN (inner and outer), and PRODUCT, DIFFERENCE. Come get specific instructions from your lecturer. [15 Marks] Submission Information Report must be submitted using Arial or Times New Roman font style with size of 12pt and 1.5 line spacing. Submit hardcopy to the unit controller of Introduction to Database. This hardcopy must have Limkokwing University of Creative Technology cover page with your names, ID, course name, semester, coursework title and lecturer's name correctly printed, and attached in front of the report. Student who submits this report later than the deadline date stated above will have his/her marks deducted accordingly as stated in the course outline. Student who submits this Assignment later than the deadline date stated above will have marks penalized. (0.5% of the total mark everyday) Specific Information This Assignment is a group work and it contributes 20% to your total marks. One solution is RESTRICTED to 2 groups. The following is the marks deduction: o Late submission = -0.5% per day of your total marks irrespective of reasons and excuses o Not following question requirements = 0 % is awarded immediately o Plagiarism = 0% is awarded immediately. o Let others copy your work = 0% is awarded immediately. o Off topic work = 0% is awarded immediately. Ensure that your paper is well organized so that each sections flows smoothly into the next. Be sure to check spelling error. Marks will be deducted for papers with excessive grammar, punctuation and spelling errors.
