Introduction: Work-life balance has become a much-discussed topic in recent years. Read the fictitious scenario below, and then do some research in the Purdue Global Library on ways to plan for a better work-life balance to address the scenario problems.

Scenario:

GreenPAK is a new marketing company located in Missouri. The mission of the founder is We win the market for our clients through technology. The vision statement is: Our clients will become #1 in their markets. The values statement at the company includes: We will work tirelessly until the job is done. We value dedication to the job. We value our clients welfare.

Technology marketing guru, Fred, who is also CEO and president, started the company and has seen much success over the past few years. He created a company where the culture of earning money as the most important measure of employee success has proliferated. This has encouraged an increasingly competitive environment and a lax attitude towards dubious information privacy practices.

Most of the employees live at the company campus, which allows their employer to get more work hours out of each employee. Many employees work 1214 hour days and simply stagger home next door to bed and collapse. There has been a rash of divorces as a result of the long work hours. Now the employees families are starting to speak up as this affects their families health. Up until now, Fred has outsourced the human resources (HR) function but realizes it is time to hire an in-house professional to develop a small HR department and handle some of the issues that are coming to the fore. Most recently, he is being sued by one family for their bread-winner having suffered a heart attack after several months of working the grueling hours expected at the company. Additionally, his clients have begun to notice that their marketing efforts are starting to fail in terms of delivering on the companys promises. The president was just informed that a major client has pulled their account since being sued for violating the privacy of someones personal information.

You have been hired as the new human resources director to address the work-life balance at the company and help restore their reputation and inspire the employees to excellence.

Checklist:

Using your reading on work-life balance, and research in the Purdue Global (PG) Library, address the following:

  • Create a plan to balance employees work-life responsibilities and needs.

  • Explain how you would implement each of the items (at least 11) you chose from the work-life balance list in your reading.
  • Create a strategy to help the CEO/president inspire performance excellence while maintaining employees work-life balance. Explain your strategy.
