With securing a stable future on the line, students only goal is to make the right decision when it comes to the choice of their academic program. To achieve this goal, they are open to suggestions and other factors that will influence their decisionmaking process. Background Higher education at the university seems to be much sought after currently as compared to a few decades ago. Decades ago undergraduate education was reserved for students who were very seasoned in the education system due to the then existence of O and A levels education policies that existed in Ghana's education Ghanaian education has evolved and has reached a stage where tertiary education is being increasingly sought after. Today, undergraduate university education has taken turns and is now much sought after by less seasoned students who are churned out of senior high schoolThe ages of these students range between as low as to years. Such students perfectly fit the late adolescent age who carry a lot of confusion in their minds and are ushered right into undergraduate studies right from senior high school.Therefore, it becomes difficult for a number of these students to appropriately decide on the courses of preference in university.This confusion and difficulty is not only experienced by these late adolescents who are prospective university students but also in the case of even experienced, seasoned, and even older adults. Amidst the confusion, it becomes burdensome to decide on the possible undergraduate program that suits their goals. This exploration seeks to investigate the various factors that influence a prospective undergraduate students decision to choose certain academic programs the University of Ghana has to offer. The University of Ghana is lauded for consistently alleviating the confusion and difficulty of prospective undergraduate students as far as program selection is concerned by making available the threecoursecombination for the vast number of students who are admitted into the College of Humanities and the general course structures like mathematical science, biological sciences, and physical sciences given to some firstyear students admitted to the College of Basic and Applied Sciences of the university of Ghana. The abovementioned commendable service by the University of Ghana goes a long way to immensely help prospective undergraduate students decide to enroll in programs The personal interest, strength, or intrinsic attraction of a prospective undergraduate student in a field or an area of knowledge as posited by James, R The focus is not solely on the students perception, however, this exploration highlights other possible factors peer influence, expectations from teachers and parents, employment opportunities and the universitys reputation. It is not surprising that students have to peek into the puzzle of influences that will shape their final decision. This paper will illustrate the extent to which prospective undergraduate students' interests, academic abilities and strengths, the economic situation of the individual, peer and parental expectations, employment opportunities, and the universitys reputation influence them to choose a program as a result of that inclination IDENTIFICATION OF GAPMany studies have explored the factors that influence the university programme choices of prospective students, but the end result of the influence of these factors have not been sufficiently explored. For instance, the assessment to determine whether the prospective students are satisfied with their decision after the university semester commences or if they feel dissatisfied with their decision. PURPOSE OF STUDYThe purpose of this study is to find what influences prospective students in choosing their course of study at the university. The concept will be investigated as a case study to identify what the students really take into consideration in terms of their economic status, the advice from parents and friends, their interest in a course, and the rest, using Teacher Education Students of the University of Ghana as the sample for the study. The study will take place on the University of Ghanas campus.
