Introductory Judgement nstructions: You are the judge in the case of R. v. James. You have just concluded the case and ave retired to your chambers to go over the notes and evidence (there was no jury, so you are icting as both the "fact finder" and "legal referee" in this case). This is an assault case. In addition o the facts there have been several statutes and cases that have been presented. Note that you can refer to other relevant cases or statutes, but they require proper citation so that I can find them! Facts (your notes from the courtroom): I Frederick James (hereinafter referred to as "FJ") is a high school student who was exhibiting disruptive behaviour while in class. The victim was Devon Hughes (hereinafter referred to as "DH"), his teacher. DH asked FJ to remain after class in order to discuss his behaviour and why he was chronically late for class. FJ stated that he would not stay. DH then instructed FJ to go to the office and speak to a vice principal. As he left the class FJ swore at DH and headed in the opposite direction. DH blocked FJ from leaving the school, FJ refused to comply and tried to push past DH. DH repeated his instructions and he took FJ by the arm in order to direct him towards the office. FJ struck DH on the side of the head, knocking DH's glasses off and his notes to the ground. DH struggled with FJ but was struck repeatedly in the head by FJ. DH suffered numerous head blows and was placed in a headlock. Other people intervened and had to forcibly remove FJ from DH
