Investigative pitfall: Promises of Confidentiality.

Investigations, by nature, face potential pitfalls that can impede an investigation, put the investigators and their department in a negative light, and subject the organization and the investigator personally to civil, criminal, and/or administrative penalties.

Include the following:

1. The paper should be written through an investigative lens.
2. Do not just recite the laws or regulations.
3. Associate them with the investigative process.
4. Explain how the risk from this pitfall can be mitigated.
5. Conclusion.

Exceptional papers might include any of the following:

1. Recent court cases in which a matter involving one of these pitfalls was adjudicated. Recent being within the past 24 months.
2. Examples of how this pitfall has created a problem for an organization.
3. Add references.
