It is a bit of American history which deals with the English Pilgrims before the formation of the United States. Due to storms and sailing errors the Pilgrims, in 1620, mistakenly landed in the near vicinity of modern day Boston at a place called Plymouth Rock. They had obtained a grant from the King of England to make a new settlement in the Virginia territory where they would be free to form a colony and practice their unique religious beliefs.
Unfortunately Plymouth Rock was several hundred miles north of the Virginia territory and legally in a no man's land for Europeans. The Native American tribes which had occupied the area had been ravaged by disease and had long since abandoned their settlements around Plymouth Rock.
Out of this dilemma, a document called the Mayflower Compact was drawn up and signed before the Pilgrims and other adventurers traveling with them set foot on the New World. After reading the attachment, what sort of document is the Mayflower Compact? Is it a contract? Or is it something else?
