It is desired to produce 10000 kg/hr concentrated sugar solution
containing 90 mass % sugar and the balance is water, from a feed
solution containing 6.4 mass % sugar and the balance is water. The feed
is initially sent to an evaporator where it is evaporated to a 54 mass %
sugar solution. The water removed exits the evaporator as pure water
stream. The solution leaving the evaporator with 54 mass % sugar, is
therefore cooled at 20\deg C in a crystallizer, where a product stream
containing 98 mass % sugar is with drawn at a rate of 10000 kg/h and
another stream considered as waste and containing 1.5 mass % of sugar
is also obtained. Ten percent of the mass flow rate of the waste stream is
discarded while ninety percent is recycled back to the evaporator.
2.1. Draw and completely label the schematic diagram of the process.
2.2. Calculate all unknown stream flow rate.
