It's your first day at work, a production contract for an aircraft worth 5m just landed and there's no times for introductions. The team is running around finishing some engineering efforts that are required for this new contract and they fully count on you give them some insight about the time they actually have left. You started your job on day 1, and this new contract has a deadline on day 23 (no need to count weekends, day 23 means the 23rd working day from today). The Head of Engineering just gave you the time estimates for the engineering efforts required. This includes the days required to complete each phase, the dependencies of each phase and the engineering efforts needed for each phase. So that's the time you have available to complete the assignment. It is very important that you time yourself and give him the answers by the cut-off time! 1. The contractual delivery date is given to you by the customer: day 23 of the schedule. a) how soon will we complete Assembly Phase 1? b) What is the latest date by which we NEED start each engineering task of the table? c) Will we be able to complete the contract on time (day 23)? d) Each engineering effort can be done by ANY of our engineers, and only one person is required full-time per task. We currently have 3 employed full time. The HR manager asks if they need to hire anyone for this contract. What would your answer be? 2. The Head of Engineering tells you that someone told him that task 11 involves a component that can be redesigned for increased performance. This would allow us to bid for a 10m contract the following month. The additional time needed by the engineer is 7 additional days. The customer is unreachable until the day of the delivery.
