Agez: Expuure (Em) Standard Table Mortality Rate q; 40 9 800 The ofce performing this comparison of actual deaths with expected deaths has underlying mortality rates that are actually 20% higher than the standard table, i.e. 0.0012. (i) If the mortality rates of the standard table are applied in this population, the expected number of deaths at any particular age would clearly be 9800 x 0.001 = 9.8. Given that our population experiences mortality rates of (1;; = 0.0012 for a: = 40, 41, . . . ,49, nd out the probability that the actual deaths at any particular age will exceed its expected deaths. Use the normal approximation to the binomial distribution for the number of deaths and apply a continuity correction whenever it is needed
