The book is a comparison of the two ways of thinking between the author and his friend John. You'll read that the friend John prefers that his motorcycle just run perfectly and gets frustrated if it doesn't and he has to pay $35 to have it repaired; while the author uses rational thinking and positive energy to repair and keep his motorcycle in good running condition. I have read this book several times [I think I'll read it again during this course!]. I recently returned from a Vancouver trip to buy my son a car and unintentionally bought myself a motorcycle; and this reminded me of the book! How does this relate to Business Ethics? Well, this rst journal entry is about a 'philosophical dialogue with yourself; what kind of person do you want to be in life? How do you want to interact with your iends, family, and businessx'career contacts? Here is my main philosophy of life as I see myself interacting in my world: "Always leave a place better than you found it." This quote actually comes from my father many years ago when I was a kid; I've never forgotten it. He was actually referring to 'place' as a physical space, when he said this he was referring to the campsite we were staying at. When we were packing up our camping gear to go home, he paused and picked up some garbage left behind by the previous campers and said, "I always try to leave a place better than I found 1 ". I have taken this very quote one step further. "Place" to me refers to everything I interact with; friends, family, students, strangers, and my work colleagues. I leave physical places better than I found them; I improve a job for the next person doing the job; I do extra things for my friends without them knowing it. And, I always leave my wife the last bite of a shared meal; ALWAYS [She probably does not know I do this]. INSTRUCTIONS: For this journal entry think abOut how you want to interact with your world.
