Jane is a fashion designer and she owns her own boutique store in the city selling

formal gowns. She designs all the gowns herself and only produces them in limited

numbers as she wants all her designs for her customers to be unique. She puts on

display in her shop window her latest design called the 'Eliza gown' with a price tag of

$2,000.

Denise is shopping in the city and is looking for a gown to wear for her 21stbirthday.

She walks past Jane's store and sees the Eliza gown. Denise thinks this will be the

perfect gown for her, so she walks into Jane's store. As Denise walks into the store

she sees that Jane is on the phone talking to a customer, so she decides to walk

around and have a browse at other gowns but in the end she prefers the Eliza

gown. Once Jane has finished her phone call, Denise approaches her, and the

following conversation occurs:

Denise: "You have a beautiful gown on display in the shop window, do you have the

Eliza gown in blue?"

Jane: "No, I don't have it in blue, but I do have it in red."

Denise: "That's okay. I'll take the dress that's on display."

Jane: "I'm sorry, I've promised that dress to the lady I was talking to on the phone."

Denise: "You have to sell it to me. I'm prepared to pay you $3,000 for it!"

Jane: "No."

Denise: "I'm currently studying business law and by putting the gown on display this is

an offer and by coming into your store I have accepted that offer. So you have to sell

it to me."
