The counselor makes it clear right up front that he sees affairs as symptoms of deeper issues in a marriage and that trust often cannot be fully developed again by a couple. He will work with them but only if Georgeagrees to stop having affairs, because he believes that true work on a relationship cannot happen if there is another person in George's life besides his wife.
