Jennine and a few of her friends that had just arrived in town for college winter break rented a room at the local ski resort for one night. The next morning Cassie, a floor housekeeper, noticed the 40" plasma tv screen was cracked, all of the bathroom hand-towels were noticeably smeared with makeup, the carpet had rather large stains at the doorway and the mini-bar was completely empty; all of which was not there the day before when she cleaned the room and marked it clean in the PMS. Cassie reported this to the executive housekeeper and they also checked against security incident reports and there were, in fact, reports of a loud bang coming from that room the night before. The engineering department guesstimated a replacement cost for the tv of $500, shampooing of the carpet at $100, and replacing the four hand towels at $40. In total, $640.00 was charged to the folio and was signed off at checkout by Jennine, which was in turn, charged to her dads' city ledger account (he is a well-known local company owner). Later that afternoon, the dad stopped by the hotel and spoke with the GM stating $640 in repairs was a bit extreme.

A. Was there a management failure/over-step here?

B. How should the GM respond to the father?

C. What, if any, action should be taken next?
