Job Analysis Assignment Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize you with job analysis techniques and the use of the O*NET site. Review the PowerPoint and corresponding podcast for Chapter 4C: O*NET. Expectations: You are expected to analyze a job using one of the job analysis techniques described in the textbook and/or lecture. You may use your own personal experience with the job (either as a job incumbent or as a recipient of the output of that job) and/or material from the O*NET site. As O*NET may have already conducted a job analysis of the job, I recommend you make full use of that resource (be sure to cite O*NET correctly if you do). Complete your work alone. First define the job that you are analyzing and then answer the eight questions below to complete the assignment. Include APA style References. What job are you analyzing (e.g., Accountant, Dentist, Hairdresser, etc.): Accountant Questions: 1. What types of activities would you conduct prior to the actually beginning the job analysis? Be specific as to the types of information you might seek and the sources where such information might be found. Firstly, I need to gather as much information about the job as I can from the managers and the employees, and identify the objectives of the job analysis. For example, accountants' work activities, and their responsibilities. Such information can be found in organization charts, existing job description, previous job analysis information, and so on. 2. If you were to actually perform a job analysis, discuss the steps you would use and how you would go about conducting the job analysis. Your answer should include: type of job analysis (e.g., functional, critical incidents, etc.), type of data collection (e.g., observation, interview, etc.), and how you would go about gathering and verifying the data. According to (Mathis, et al. 2015), there are several steps to implement a job analysis as listed below: 1. Plan the job analysis 2. Prepare for and introduce job analysis 3. Conduct the job analysis 4. Develop job descriptions and job specification 5. Maintain and update job descriptions and job specifications For conducting the job analysis, I'd use observation (subjective) and questionnaires (objective) job analysis methods at the same time. After collecting the information, I will start drafting the job descriptions and jobs specifications, and show them to the managers, supervisors, and employees before the final completion. 3. For the job you are analyzing, what are the five or six most important job tasks listed? Why do you think each is important? There are several important tasks for accountant; 1. Establish tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts. (According to Robert Kemo and Jeffrey Waybright 2015, accounts are the essential and basic summary device of accounting, the detailed record of all the changes in a specific asset, liability, or stockholders' equity item as a result of transactions. P54) 2. Examine accounting records. 3. Analyze accounting records. (Task 2 and 3 are also core steps for other accounting activities. Examine and analyze accounting records are deeply related to the correctness and accuracy of the financial statements) 4. Prepare financial statements. (This is the almost the most important step for a company. the financial statements show all of the accounts with their balances. From the financial statements, users or investors can find valuable information for them to make important decisions that impact on the company. 5. Report financial statements to management. (Financial statements are also being used by managerial accountant, managers, and the internal of the company for making important operation decisions.) 4. What knowledge would a person need to be successful in this job and how would a person demonstrate having such knowledge (e.g., degree, license, experience)?
