Joe, who ran a successful business as a financial planner, was jogging in his favourite park when he came upon a woman, Andrea screaming as a dog growled and lunged at her. Joe stepped in and tried to grab the dog and got bit on the leg and arm in the process.Joe kicked the dog and knocked the dog unconscious as the owner, Sam came running up. Sam had let his dog off leash for a run and the dog had taken off. When Sam saw that his dog appeared dead due to the kick, he punched Joe in the face and threatened to sue him. Joe fell backwards and hit his head.

Madison and Rafe showed up and calmed everyone down and Sam put his dog on a leash and took off when the dog woke up. Madison and Rafe noticed that Joe was bleeding on his leg so they offered to take him to the hospital.

When they got to the hospital, Dr. House patched up the leg and the arm and gave Joe a rabies shot. Joe was talking slowly and complained of a headache but Dr. House blew it off as the rabies shot and figured Joe always talked like that.

Joe's wife Alex could not wake him later that day and rushed him to the hospital. He had a brain bleed from the fall when he was punched and was permanently disabled and unable to work for the rest of his life.
