John Jimland is the manager of a manufacturing facility that produces small machinery. While the machines are expected to function normally, occasional; malfunctions lead to claims for damaged goods. There are different types of claims: Claims due to corrosion, wiring or malfunction. John would like to explain whether there are differences in the amount of money for claims due either to fatigued workers or managerial supervision effectiveness at different locations.

The facility had always kept monthly production records, but from what John could tell, no one ever consulted them or did anything with them other than to put them in file cabinets at the end of each reporting period. He thought that in principle he should be able to monitor production claims and identify the source of differences if any in the amount of money claims. Accordingly, he extracted more than two years or 109 weeks of claims by customers

Assignment:

  1. Can you identify and list all the issues that John needs to address?
  2. Calculate the Mean and Standard Deviation of the Amount of money for Claims by (1) Shift and (2) Locations
  3. Use the method of hypothesis testing to resolve the question of whether there are differences in the amount of money for claims either by shift or by location or both.
  4. Present your conclusions in a report. Please be sure to present tables or charts for the Average amount of money claim by location and by shift.

Data Definitions:(1)OBS= Machine ID Number (2)LOC=Location(3)Code= type of Claim (4)SHIFT= Day or night shift

Code for Shift When Code = 1==>Day Shift Code = 2==>Night Shift

Code for Location Code = 1==>Brooklyn Code = 2==>Queens
