June is a 34-year-old Jewish woman of color from New York, NY, and an Army Sergeant based in Georgia. She served one tour of duty in Iraq. Currently, she is in the process of being discharged due to disability following 16 years of service. She has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and post-traumaticstress disorder (PTSD), both due to combat. June does not have work experience in the private sector. She is a high school graduate and has one year of college experience. She is having difficulty translating her military service experience into civilian job requirements. She feels depressed and has anxiety about how she will feel once she is discharged. Her husband, John, suddenly died of a heart attack while she was deployed. All of this has also led her to have a struggle with faith. June is a widowed mother of 3 children ranging in age from 4 to 9. She does not know what type of work she wants to do following discharge; she intended to be in the Army for many more years. In addition, money is a major concern because she expects that her salary as a civilian will be less than what she earned in the military. Her children will no longer be able to attend the school on base when they move out of military housing.
