Dear Ms Foral

I am an existing client with this firm. I came into the office the other day and dropped off a signed sale and purchase agreement on a property I am hoping to purchase. I also wanted to instruct your firm to act on this matter. At reception I was asked to complete something for identity purposes. Unfortunately I did not have my handbag with me so could not provide the information requested.

I live rurally and internet service is intermittent. Hence the written letter. I do have a few questions, as set out below, that I hope you can shed some light on. I have used the services of this firm before, but not in the last couple of years.

1. Why am I being asked for information as to my identity? What is the legal authority?

2. The receptionist used the term 'money laundering'. Could you explain how this has anything to do with a law firm. Sounds like criminal stuff to me and I am not one.

3. This is a routine purchase of a residential property. Can you remind me again what it is I need to bring in with me to the office for identification.

4. When I say me, it is actually going to be purchased by our family Trust. There is one other trustee, my husband. Will my identification be enough?
