Kane's Growers Supply is in Scranton, PA. They are a wholesaler to landscapers and specialize in commercial plants ranging from orchids and roses to wild grasses and pine trees. Bob Kane, owner, sponsored a project to create a year-round garden center that would be a showcase for landscaping work and a multi-purpose center. This project would include a greenhouse for plants, an education center for classes and seminars, and a tourist destination for gardeners, photographers, and the public. The project scope for design and installation of the greenhouse was extensive, as Bob's vision was to create an experience for visitors that would reflect the natural environment with large trees, birds, a water feature, and fishpond. Bob Kane, assigned Claire Wells, Landscape Architect, as the project manager. Claire decided to create project team with a few internal employees as well as external experts who could help with the deliverables beyond their expertise. The internal team was qualified to complete the design of the garden environment, placement of plants and installation of the water feature. Deliverables that required some expertise included, design and construction of the greenhouse, fish and wildlife for the greenhouse, the marketing process to reach the various community and business groups. It was decided that an RFP would be utilized for the Design/Construction work as well as the Marketing firm. Procuring the wildlife would be set up in an RFQ with specific quantities and species. The project team worked together to form the various specifications for the bids and a bidder conference was held to field any questions from the suppliers before their respective proposals were submitted. The most difficult process was selecting a design construction firm. The evaluation criteria to compare each proposal was as follows: Qualifications and experience of each firm Ability to address all issues in the statement of work. Ability to fulfill the design and construction based on the determined timeline. New ideas presented within the proposal. Price Unce the selection process was completed, contracts were then negotiated
