Item 1: Safety/access review of final draft of new play area (30 mins)
Kate breaks the team into pairs and asks them to review the final draft plans for the play area with a focus on access and safety.
Kate gives the following information/instructions:
'This is the final draft for the play area - as per the contract we can now make only minor changes.
Everyone has had an opportunity to provide input, including families, children and the committee.
I want you to focus on safety and access. We have tried to ensure the spaces are accessible to children with disabilities such as a wheelchair or walker. We had also worked hard to anticipate any potential safety hazards.
If you identify any minor issues, please make a note of them on your copy and I'll meet with you tomorrow'
Ten minutes into the task Adele comments: 'What happened to the climbing wall? I thought that was going to be included!'
Henry: The water pump's gone too! So much for staff input!
The staff all begin to talk among themselves.
After intervention by Kate, who reminded the team that not all recommendations could be included because of costs, the meeting got back on track.
