Ken Ponder has a fairly new boss $($Joan Smooth$)$ at his company $($BigCo$).$ Ms$.$ Smooth has only been the head of Human Resources for $6$ months. Ken has been with BigCo for $7$ years, $5$ of which were spent in the Human Resources department. Ken is well respected at BigCo, especially for his writing skills. Joan needs to write up a proposal to expand her Human Resources department and submit it to the CEO and CFO. Joan asks Ken to help with the proposal. Ken starts his research. He finds the draft proposal full of vague phrases like "demonstrable need for more space and more personnel." He checks company surveys and business trends, and finds out that the existing data do not support the expenditures for more office space and more personnel stated in Joan's draft. Joan says that the proposal's speculations are possible, even probable, in her view. She also says that the Human Resources Department needs to get its priorities taken care of before other departments do$.$ Ken says that he thinks his data are correct, and that the projected growth in Human Resources is too small to justify the costly requests. Joan says, "Write it my way, Ken, or I'll find someone else who will."
