Question:
Knowledge management (KM) is storing, organizing and identifying important information within an organization. The knowledge management system harnesses collective knowledge of the organization which in result will lead to a more efficient operations. Companies that use knowledge management achieve higher success. Some ways human behavior can pose a challenge for knowledge management is when they are too complex for workers which can result in higher costs by having to train them. If the management tools are used incorrectly, you again are losing money and time. An important way to prevent this from happening is by having a plan on how the collected information will help the company.
I currently work at a consulting company. My company handles technology related claims of all size and magnitudes. They are using information daily. Some ways I would suggest they implement knowledge management is:
Shared calendars - stores everyone's availability, easily track where everyone is
Mail server - collects important emails
Discussion forums - used to share company information and plan activities
Instant messaging and texting - used for quick answers to receive what could be critical information
Presence awareness - is a feature that allows you to plan a sentence or icon stating where you are (if you are available or not)
