LAB 2.12 CALCULATING THE NUMBER OF VALID HOSTS ON A SUBNET OVERVIEW The number of hosts available on a subneted network follows the same panem as the classful IP networks you have already seen. When the host bits are all set to 0, that address represents the subnet. When the bits are all set to 1, that address is the broadeast address for that subnet. The table below shows the usable hosts for several subnetted networks. 2550 172.160 00010000 000111 172 16 640 172 16 The Sormula 2"-2, which is used to calculate the number of subnets that can be created from a certain number of bits, is also used to calculate the number of usable hoses on a subnet both situations, the formula finds the total number of combinations that can be created from a bits However, when used to calculate the mumber ef usable hosts on a subnet, n is the number of bits in the host ID, and two combinations are removed for the broadcast on the subnet and the subnet iself. The table below shows the sumber of usable hosts ava lable for certain numbers of bits 4096-2-4094 After completing this lab, you will be able to .
