Download the file Gardeners.docx from the Lab Resources in Blackboard and make the following changes. Note that a completed version of the assignment has been provided. You may use that to check your work as you are completing the assignment.

Change the top, bottom, left and right margins to 0.5.

Make the following changes to the various headings: Create a Header for the text Gardeners Corner. Use the font type to Arial Black, 20 pts. Create a Title for the text Putting a Perennial Garden to Bed. Use the font Book Antigua, 28 pts. Create a top border for the Title Putting a Perennial Garden to Bed. Create a Subtitle using the text By Joy. Italicize the subtitle. Create Section titles (i.e. Cleanup, Add Compost).

Make the following changes in the body of the document. Highlight the first word of the first paragraph (A) so that you can format it. Use the Drop Cap tool found on the Insert tab to create a large Capital A. Create Bullet lists using the same bullet size and type throughout the sections. You can use the format painter tool (looks like a paint brush) to duplicate the formatting exactly. Create Numbered lists for the list under Plant Perennial Use the Thesaurus and find a replacement for the word garden. Replace all the word garden in this document with the replacement word. Use the Find and Replace option. Do not manually replace each word on your own. Double underline the Section title To mulch or not to mulch. Add a page number at the lower right corner of the page. (Insert, Page Number) Starting with the first line of text (not the title or subtitle) create two columns in the body using the Columns tool found on the Page Layout Tab. It is better to make all of the formatting changes to a document before adding columns to reduce spacing issues. Also you can adjust where your columns break using the Breaks dropdown on the Page Layout tab.

Copy the picture and then paste it in your document. Text wrap the image using the through option. Resize the selected picture to fit within your document while preserving the aspect ratio. This is done by selecting the picture, clicking on a corner handle (small circle) holding the shift key down as you drag the mouse from the corner to the middle along the diagonal.

Change the font color of the header, title and section headings to complement the image selected.

Adjust the font and image size to ensure that the document fits on a single page.

Gardeners Corner Putting a Perennial Garden to Bed A certain sense of peace descends when a perennial garden is put to bed for the season. The plants are safely tucked in against the elements, and the gaden is ready to welcome the first signs of life. When the work is done, you can sit back and anticipate the bright blooms of spring. Many gardeners are uncertain of how to close a perennial garden. This weeks column demystifies the process. The best compost is made up of yard waste and kitchen scraps. Spread a one to two inch layer of compost over the entire garden and then refrain from stepping on the area and compacting the soil. Over the winter nutrents from the compost will work deep into the soil. To mulch or not to mulch? Winter protection for perennial beds can only help plants survive the winter. Winter mulch prevents the freezing and thawing cycles, which cause plants to heave and eventually die. Heres what works and what doesnt: Always apply mulch after the ground is frozen. Never apply generic hay because is contains billions of weed seeds. Also, whole leaves and bark mulch hold too much moisture. Use a loose matrial to allow air filtration. Straw and salt marsh hay are excellent choices for mulch. If using leaves, use only stiff leaves such as Oak or Beech. Soft leaves, such as Maple, make it difficult for air and water to filtrate. Remove the winter mulch in the spring as soon as new new growth begins.
