Lab 6: Beats (Oscilloscope)

IdeaIly, we can make our labs this semester a paperless, environmentally conscious experience. Below you will find a digital copy of the lab exercise this week. Ideally you can download a digital copy of the lab and record your data digitally. Feel free to use graphing software of your choice (excel is sufficient) when a graphical analysis of the data is necessary.

Beats (Oscilloscope)

Purpose

• To determine the beat frequency of a wave.
• To write a beat equation to describe this wave.

Motivation

When two separate harmonic waves that are close in frequency superpose, the resulting wave form will have a modulating amplitude called a beat.

Data & Results

The data will be graded on 5 points per frequency. The percent error will be calculated for four frequencies for a total of 20 points.
