Before Starting

Before starting this project, Create an OU in the root of your existing Active Directory structure named "BlueWater." Put all of your work for this project in that OU. This project will be completed using Active Directory Users and Computers and Group Policy Editor on your AD Server. You will also use File Explorer to create shared directory structures and Printers and Scanners to Add a Printer or Scanner.

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to gain experience in defining user environments with Active Directory. This project will involve the following activities:

  • Establish naming conventions for Organizational Units, User Accounts, Groups, directory structures, printers, etc.
  • Create User Accounts, Groups, and shared resources in Active Directory,
  • Create directory structures that will facilitate sharing among groups and ensure the security of individual data,
  • Customize account properties, profiles, policies, login scripts and rights for individual users and groups, and
  • Set Password Policies (whatever you think is best) for the entire company.

Company Overview

The Bluewater Spa and Pool Company is a small business that provides retail sales in a store front and on-site service of spas and pools. The data that they store within their company includes retail data, service contracts, and inventory management.

Your Responsibilities

Bluewater Spa and Pool Company is housed in a large warehouse that includes a retail store front and some service vehicle parking. The company has 12 Windows 10 computers and 3 point of sale (POS) terminals (running Windows) on their existing network. Your job is to set up and configure a single Windows Server 2016/19 system that will provide global directory services along with file and print services to the company. The company has a web site with company email through a local ISP, so you will not need to worry about establishing email.

Company Needs

The Bluewater company has 34 employees. Their job responsibilities fall into 7 general functional areas:

  • 22 Salespersons who provide purchasing assistance to walk-in customers,
  • 5 Service Technicians,
  • 2 Warehouse/Inventory Specialists/Shipping & Receiving,
  • 1 Accountant/Billing/Bookkeeping Specialist,
  • 1 Receptionist/Appointment Scheduling,
  • 1 Store Manager, and
  • 2 Business Owners/Managers.

Establish Shared Directories as follows:

  • The Business Owners/Managers share information with all employees.
  • Service Technicians share information,
  • Warehouse/Inventory specialists/Shipping & Receiving share information.
  • The Accountant/Billing/Bookkeeping Specialist, Store Manager, Receptionist/Appointment Scheduling, and Business Owners/Managers all share information.

All other employees should have home directories.

All employees should have access to all printers:

  • Sales 3 HP LaserJet 1320s (pooled)
  • Service Office Area 3 HP LaserJet 1320s (pooled w/separator page)
  • Warehouse HP LaserJet 1320
  • Accountant & Receptionist Office Area HP LaserJet AIO
  • Managers Office Area HP LaserJet AIO
