Harry's is known for going door-to-door and signing customers up for rent-to-own hot water heater contracts by having residents sign up contracts. Nick signed up for a hot water rental contract for $50 per month for ve years. Recently, Nick tried to sell his home in order to retire and move to Thailand, and found out that there was a lien for the hot water heater equipment against his property's title, which stated the value of the lien was $200,000. This became the subject of a major news investigative report related to customers nding out they had liens on their property which they were unaware of or which weren't brought to their attention when they signed their contracts with Harry's. Nick has come to you upset with Harry's. The media report claims consumers can take a number of legal and regulatory actions against Harry's if necessary. Nick has retained you to advise him on whether it is possible, based on the rules and regulations set out in Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, for any remedies and penalties based on the fact pattern against Hat-ifs.
