Leadership Development Your Leadership Development Story Objective The objective of the Leadership Development Story is for you to capture, in your own style, your leadership development journey over the course. It is based on what you have learned, experienced, shared and explored in creativity when working in a team, participating in class or being exposed to leadership challenges. Framework for Developing and Presenting Your Story The following is a suggested framework for developing your story. However the overall, driving focus for you is to achieve the following objective: "to write your leadership development story of no more than two pages that has a beginning (where you started from as a leader), a middle (how you grew as a leader) and an ending (the difference that your leadership development can now make for you in your life)." The following are some framework considerations for your story; 1. The content for you story should be built from your blog postings referencing specific situations of leadership development that may have triggered that learning (people, place, situation, etc); 2. Remember our definition of leadership: Leadership occurs when a person influences others to cause real change to achieve a common vision. 3. As stated above you should follow a traditional story line as one might see in a movie: a. The opening: capture what your understanding of creativity was before this course; in what ways did you think you were or were not a leader; how did you view leadership in terms of what you were exposed to; what did you think about being able to develop your leadership ability. b. The middle (the core of your story): based on your portfolio postings, capture in what ways you feel that you grew as a leader and what was it that caused that development; consider your creativity growth both within your team participation and with our work in class; what leadership strengths did you become aware of; and when you used these leadership strengths what impact or difference did you see that it made? c. The ending (this movie has a happy ending): based on how you developed as a leader over the course (based on b) how would you describe yourself as a leader today; what are the new skills, attitudes, understandings and strengths that you bring as a leader now; and with your new leadership ability what difference do you believe this could make in your own and others lives in the future? 4. Your Report and Presentation. Report: No more than two pages of actual text. It is a story, a movie so make it creative, engaging and interesting. b. Presentation: You will give a five to seven minute verbal (no technology, no notes) presentation of your story. Don't try to memorize your two pages, rather, focus on the three components identified in #3 above and simply speak to them as you would be speaking to a friend. You should bring a metaphor that in some way represents your story. This will build on our leadership communication in application. 5. Basis of Assessment a. Your Creative Development Story will be based on three equal components: completeness (content as per #1, 2 and 3 above); depth of insights from what you were exposed to and how you integrated that into your personal leadership development; and the creativity and quality of your report in terms of presenting an engaging, compelling personal story..
