Learning Activity #1 In the tragedy of the commons, the commons ultimately suffer significant damage due to neglect. Everyone thinks someone else will take care of the problem. With communities of practice, there is a similar danger of neglect. Communities of practice are based upon the assumption that information will be shared. However, the experts within the community could easily not share information because someone else will do it. In the end, you could have a situation in which you have a community to share information, but information is not being shared. In developing a community of practice, what steps could you implement to ensure that information is being shared? Please think about real world examples that may support your argument. Learning Activity #2 You currently are the CEO of a successful video game company. The company produces sports video games but is looking into producing education software. Although video games and education software may appear like similar products, the expertise needed to produce each one is very different. Therefore, the current employees within your company do not have the expertise to produce the education software that the company would like to sell. A proposal has been made to crowdsource the development of educational software. Using the information from the readings and/or real world examples, argue for or against crowdsourcing the educational software.
