Assessment guidelines
ABC is a fictional major international construction firm. Let's assume this fictional company is based in Cyprus, has an annual turnover of one billion United States dollars, and that has been retained by the government of a developing country as a result of an international public tender to undertake a series of infrastructure projects over a period of four years. These projects are: designing and building a. a new international airport with the capacity to serve 10 million passengers per year, b. a new telecommunications network to serve 1 million households, and c. three bridges (200, 300, and 400, meters in length) over a river, all projects located in the central part of the country.
For ABC and the projects in the developing country you need to review the relevant literature of Project Management regarding the project management processes and methodologies, the portfolio, governance, and programme management as well as the various levels of a project (i.e., strategic, operational and project levels) and critically discuss:
The project management processes and methodologies that a company with the characteristics of the ABC should follow in the different projects that it has undertaken.
Evaluate the differences in the types of projects that ABC manages in all the above- mentioned cases included in the tender (i.e., portfolio, governance, and programme management), using Lock's typology of projects.
How can ABC achieve operational effectiveness given the various levels of the projects that it manages (i.e., strategic, operational, project).
