Leavus Jeans company sells watches all over the US. The jeans are assembled in a plant with two lines.

Historical data shows that each pair of jeans coming off line I, independently of the others, is free of defects with a probability of .98.

The similar probability for line II is .99. Each line produces 500 pairs of jeans per hour. The manager of production has some questions for you.

1) How many defect free jeans each line is likely to produce in a given hour. Specifically, find the smallest integer k (for each line separately) , such that you can be 99% sure that the line will not produce more than K defective watches in a given hour.2

2)Leavus has an order for 500 jeans. The company plans to fill this order by packing slightly more than 500 jeans, all from line 2, and sending this package off to the customer. Leavus wants to send as few Jeans as possible, but wants to be 99% sure that when the customer opens the package, there are at least 500 defect free jeans. How many jeans should be packed?

Please explain how you approached the problem as well as the answers. Please include excel chart if possible.
