I reviewed this pleasant 70 year old woman in the office today recently she had an episode of abdominal pain apparently she developed some abdominal pain and brief diarrhea followed by Constipation which lasted for about 2 weeks she was prescribed antibiotics for 10 days and the problem is now completely resolved she was told that this abdominal episode was diverticulitis although she did explain to me today that her pain was not only in the left lower quadrant but also quite prominent in the epigastrium in fact the way she describes it today this was the major area of tenderness she is known to have diverticula oasys on barium enema and did have colonoscopy be four years ago with extensive diverticula oasys noted I was unable to advance the scope pastor hepatic flexure at that time she has a sister who was diognosed with colorectal malignancy at age 69 and died within a year she has an abdominal ultrasound pending this Saturday I am not sure if her recent attack was diverticulitis or some other pathology such as police cystitis pancreatitis etc I would be interested in knowing the results of her upcoming ultrasound and if you could forward this to my office I would appreciate it I agree she should be considered for a follow up colonoscopy given her family history and current age we have made arrangements for a colonoscopy to be organized with conscious sedation in the near future thank you for asking me to see Mrs McClain in consultation yours sincerely.
