She makes sure to outline the steps of the program in careful detail before beginning the training program.
  • Anthony was recently hired to consult for a large retail network to assess employee satisfaction and decrease the number of missed days of work across all employees of the company. After conducting a brief survey to get a sense of preference for incentives, he tests the effectiveness of a lottery-based system whereby employees are entered into a raffle to win one of several prizes. They receive one entry per day of 'attendance' (e.g., days reported to work). He first gathers archival data on the number of missed days of work across several weeks prior to the the start of the intervention; then he implements the lottery-based system or a month; followed by a temporary pause and then re-introduction of the incentive system. By following these steps, he shows that the lottery-based system was the reason for a sharp increase in 'attendance' behavior across all employees in the company.
