LOGIC AND CRITICAL REASONING

USING RHETORICAL DEVICES

Read the following story for the background facts.

The senator became inebriated at the fundraiser in the White house and flirted with all of her constituents. On her way to the hotel she passed out completely and was picked up by the cops who took her to her hotel. The next morning she couldn't remember anything. At the press conference she ignored all questions about her the fundraiser but would only answer questions about her plans and stands on the issues.

1 : Rewrite the passage above from the perspective of someone who supports the senator and wants her to be re-elected. Make the passage as positive as possible, while still staying loyal to the facts. Make use of euphemism and down players wherever possible by substituting them in for more neutral terms. For example, "passed away" is euphemism for death. Don't add text unless it's a loaded question.

2: Rewrite the passage above from the perspective of someone who is against the senator and does not want her to be re-elected. Make the passage as negative as possible, while still staying loyal to the facts. Make use of dysphemism, loaded questions, hyperbole, and innuendo, wherever possible. Don't add text except in the form of a loaded question.
