2. Hi Torie, I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend and an impressive Friday. I do agree that Democratic refers to a political system in which citizens, either directly or through their elected representatives, can make and implement policy. I also agree that this system is typically founded on the principle of majority rule to ensure that all residents are fairly represented. What was the one thing that surprised you when you was doing the research for this post? Did you know the material or was it something new that you learned about?
3. I really enjoyed reading your response to this week's discussion question. I agree with your downside to our democracy. Personally, our government sometimes feels like a bunch of family members fighting about why their opinion is better than someone else's and therefore it should be law (literally) without caring the hear out others and collectively come together for something that would benefit all. There is too much competition amongst those in power and sometimes it can feel like the word of the people does not even matter.
4. I believe that the government and the political system has changed over time so much especially now with our last three presidents. Our values, morals, and everything this country was mainly founded on has lost its value with everyone's political party and system being so different and it shows greatly with how the country and the people are today. The country has not been the same in a long time.
5. Hi Torie, I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend and an impressive Thursday. I do agree thatIncome inequality has been America's most pressing social challenge through the administrations of the last five presidents and into the present day. What was the one thing that surprised you when you was doing the research for this post? Did you know the material or was it something new that you learned about?
6. Personally, I feel the last great president America had was President Reagan. I feel he was the last man to lead our country who had values, morals, and a backbone and who was willing to stand up for what was right. He was the last President who believed that families did better when mothers could stay home and raise their children, so he did everything in his power to make the economy accommodate a one-income household. I feel everything President Reagan stood for is everything America lacks today. On the macro level, our economy has gotten so out of control that it takes two incomes to support a family, and within the last four years, we are seeing more and more families move back in with parents or siblings combining households to make ends meet. So that means on the micro level family structures are being rearranged or having to go without. I feel my age and witnessing this change has shaped my view, my childhood while President Reagan was president is nowhere near anything like I am witnessing today. We live in a completely different America.
