  • Looking at the outcome in hindsight, could project management concepts have avoided the loss of the kingdom? Explain your answers. One of the main things behind project management is making sure all ends are covered properly. If one layer of the project relies on the other, it's important to make sure it's applied and functioning properly. Cutting even the smallest corners on a specific project can obviously lead to disaster, and I feel that's why we have project management concepts.
  • What does it mean when someone refers to the critical path for a project? Discuss how it is determined and how project managers use it? The critical path refers to the longest path of dependent activities and determining the time to finish said activities. Project managers use it to list what needs to be done, how long it will take, how the dependencies between each activity, and finally milestones. This technique helps to drastically reduce situations where a specific part of the project line might not be completed.
  • What is strategic planning? How do organizations benefit from strategic planning? A strategic plan is a full mapping of what you are doing with a business, project, or any activity. You map at what you're doing, how you're doing it, and how you plan to execute the plan. This type of planning would help anyone, including organizations. Strategic planning would benefit organizations on many different fronts! They might use it to plan out each department and the intricacies of said departments executions. They might teach strategic planning to all workers to help improve their productivity and evaluation skills. It can honestly be executed in countless situations.
  • How is the PERT chart (called a network diagram in MS Project) different from the Gantt chart? What advantages or disadvantages do you see in each? Which do you prefer and why? Gantt is a bar chart that focuses mainly on the time needed to complete a task, where as the PERT chart is a parallel chart the shows the inter-linking of different tasks. Gantt charts are more designed for tasks that are already fully decided and likely to be unchanged, and PERT charts are super intricate and best used for smaller portions of a project. I do not prefer one over the other, in fact I feel that they would work well in tandem, and each chart would serve it's purpose on the whole of a project.
