Make a Gantt Chart from the activities and tasks :

Case Description

The City of Toronto has progressed on so many fronts since the October 2019 municipal election saw a liberal-minded mayor elected to office. The dark, backward days of former Mayor Bobby Bored and his conservative, hawkish brother are a distant memory.

In addition to new public transit plans, the city moved quickly to initiate a project to replace its professional baseball stadium. The current stadium, built in the late 1980s is outdated and generally recognized as the worst professional stadium in North America.

The G&E Company is preparing a bid to build the new 74,000 seat Avignon Stadium (named after a beautiful town in southern France). The construction must start June 1 2020, and be completed in time for the start of the 2024 season. A penalty clause of $100,000 per day of delay beyond April 20, 2024, is written into the contract.

Ben Keith, the president of the company, expressed optimism at obtaining the contract and revealed that the company could net as much as $5 million on the project. He also said if they are successful, the prospects for future projects are quite good since there is a projected renaissance in building classic baseball parks with modern luxury boxes.

The baseball stadium is an outdoor structure with a retractable roof. The project begins with clearing the site (activity 2). Once the site is clear, work can start simultaneously on the structure itself and demolishing an adjacent building site (activity 3). This demolition is necessary to create a construction stage for storing materials and equipment (activity 4).

The work on the stadium begins by driving 160 support pilings (activity 5). Next comes the pouring of the lower concrete bowl (activity 6). Once this is done and the construction site has been set up, then the pouring of the main concourse (activity 7)), the installation of the playing field (activity 8), and the construction of the upper steel bowl can occur (activity 9).

Once the concourse and upper bowl are completed, work can start simultaneously on building the luxury boxes (activity 11), installing the seats (activity 10), installing the electronic scoreboards (activity 12), and installing stadium infrastructure (activity 13) which includes: bathrooms, lockers, restaurants, etc. Once the seats are installed then the steel canopy can be constructed (activity 14) followed by the installation of the lights (activity 15).

The retractable roof represents the most significant technical challenge to the project. Building the roof track supports (activity 16) can begin after the lower concrete

bowl is constructed. At this time the dimensions of the roof can be finalized and the construction of the roof at a separate site can begin (activity 17). After the roof supports are completed then the roof tracks can be installed (activity 18) and made operational (90 days). Once all activities are completed, the stadium can be inspected (activity 20).

For purposes of this case assume the following:

The following holidays are observed: January 1, Victoria Day (third Monday in May), Canada Day (July 1st), Labor Day (first Monday in September), Thanksgiving Day (second Monday in October), December 25 and 26 (Christmas Day and Boxing Day).

If a holiday falls on a Saturday then Friday will be given as an extra day off, and if it falls on a Sunday then Monday will be given as a day off. If a holdiay falls on a Saturday or Sunday and the Friday or Monday are also a holiday, the non- holiday Monday or Friday will be given as an extra day off.

The construction crews work Monday through Friday. Work days are 8 hours.
