Malcolm is attending an annual sci-fi convention held in the Planetarium Hotel in Greenwich. He has attended this event for the last ten years. Malcolm arrives early at the hotel. He is informed by reception that his room is not ready.
1.Malcolm decides to leave his luggage at the left luggage office, as he has done every year previously and go for a swim in the hotel pool.
2.At the luggage office he is given a small ticket with a number on the front which he presumes is to allow identification of his property on his return. He puts the ticket in his wallet to add to the other nine he has at home as part of his convention scrapbook and heads off to the pool. In actual fact on the back of the ticket in very small letters is written 'for terms and conditions please see the notice at the main reception desk', which is ten metres from the left luggage office. The notice at the hotel reception desk declares that luggage is left at the owners' risk and any damage arising out of the hotel's negligence will be limited to 50. Malcolm's costume for the convention, as an original piece used in the filming of his favourite sci-fi film, is worth at least 800. On returning to claim his luggage, Malcolm is told that the hotel is very sorry but his luggage has been lost and they offer him 50 cash. Malcolm is very upset and wishes you to advise him as to the legality of the hotel limiting their liability in this way
