Managerial Leadership Interview Questions
One of the critical competencies needed by all managerial leaders is the ability to hire the right people for a position. This assignment requires you to create a set of behavioral interview questions. Based on research, there seems to be ten categories that these questions seem to fit. Below is a list of those categories and an operational definition for each:
Strengths -- The ability to consistently produce a positive outcome through near-perfect performance in a specific task.
Weaknesses -- A shortage or misapplication of ability, desire, efficacy, or talent that gets in your way or others or causes problems for you or others.
Apply discipline-specific knowledge - The capacity to apply declarative, procedural, situational, and reflective knowledge to a specific task.
Ability to communicate - Effective communication occurs when there is shared understanding; the three communication mediums to focus on are oral, written, and electronic.
Ability to solve problems -- Solving a problem is about identifying and closing a gap between actual and desired results; it involves finding problems, generating alternatives, making decisions, and taking action.
Ability to create new opportunities -- Transforming many diverse and random elements into useful solutions, products, and/or services; it includes preparation, incubation, illumination, and validation. Ability to lead -- Exhibiting the capacity to influence beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors; this competency includes personal, peer, and team leadership; leadership can occur even though the individual has no authority.
Ability to manage -- Planning activities; organizing by gathering the resources; executing the plan; monitoring progress toward the plan and making an adjustment to realize the intended results.
Ability to work with others - Willingly sharing time, talent, and treasure in pursuit of a shared purpose; exhibiting the capacity to keep promises, be cooperative, and be dependable; demonstrating the capacity to learn and collaborate on shared issues.
Ability to act ethically -- Being ethically aware; understanding one's ethical reasoning process; to have developed a professional code of conduct.
Your assignment is to compose two behavioral questions for each category that will tap into the specific behavior. I would encourage you to search online sources for good questions. You may use those questions as part of this assignment as long as you indicated where you found the question.
