Managing Organisations (MGMT1001) Assessment 2 Guidelines Assignment Aim: It is an aim of this unit that students be able to identify concepts that guide effective management. This includes the identification of a broad range of leadership principles in the management of people and self. To help achieve this, students should read Chapter 13:Leading from Schermerhorn et al. (2020), Management (7th Asia-Pacific edition.) to gain an understanding of different leadership styles and principles of effective leadership. This book is available online in the SCU library. Students should then watch the interview with former Proctor & Gamble Chief Executive Officer Mr Bob McDonald. The link to this interview is in Module 3. In this interview, Mr McDonald talks about the principles of leadership he uses to create an innovative culture and improve employee performance. Whilst watching this interview, your task is to identify the leadership principles, from the reading, that Mr McDonald talks about, in the video. Report Structure Submit a Word document that contains the following components and formatting features. Note that it is not necessary to include the Universitys Assignment Coversheet.

1. Assignment Title page. The individual student develops this. It is to identify the unit name & code, assignment title, student name & ID, and the word count. Note: include the Title Page and References in the 1000 word count.

Example: Start with a broad first paragraph. This should be an overview of the Reading. You want to give your marker a brief, general introduction to the topic of leadership. Leading is one of the four functions of the management process (Schermerhorn et al. 2020). It is defined as..There are many models of leadership..Leadership research has examined the traits and behaviours of leaders.etc. Then go on to the interview. Mr Bob McDonald is the Chief Executive Officer of Proctor & Gamble. When discussing the principles of leadership he uses to create an innovative culture and improve performance, he alludes to several strategies that align with the principles reported by Schermerhorn et al. (2020). In the interview, McDonald makes statements about engagement and collaboration (McDonald in Reynolds & Crockett n.d.). According to the path-gaol leadership theory (Schermerhorn et al. 2020) good leaders help employees achieve goals by removing barriers and rewarding achievement. To achieve this a participatory leadership may be used and this style of leadership involves the inclusion of employees in decision making. Then go on to further exemplify this last point. Support it with actual statements (quotes) from McDonald. E.g. McDonald stated that at Proctor & Gamble ..we actually train people in collaboration. Marking Criteria.
