Manufacturing Systems Description Production Processes i. XYZ's process for this product family (Products 1 and 2) involves Plants 1, 2, and 3 using the same processes and transportation methods. ii. Switching between Product 1 and Product 2 requires no changeover time at Plant 1, 2 hours at Plant 2, and an 8 hour changeover in Plant 3. Transportation time is 5 days by barge between Plants 1 and 2, 3 days by rail from Plant 1 to Plant 2, 5 days by rail and truck from Plant 1 to the customer, 6 days by rail from Plants 2 and 3, and 1 day by truck between Plant 3 and the customer. iii. Raw materials at each plant are supplied by various vendors. Raw materials are delivered on a daily basis. XYZ Production Control Department i. Receives ABC Carpet's 90/60/30 day forecasts and enters them into manufacturing resource planning (MRP). ii. Issues XYZ's 6 week forecast to ChemCo Supplier via MRP. iii. Secures raw materials by weekly faxed order release to ChemCo Supplier. iv. Generates MRP-based, weekly departmental requirements based on customer orders. v. Issues weekly build schedules to Plants 1, 2, and 3. vi. Issues daily shipping schedule to shipping
