Many forecasters are predicting COVID-19 will dramatically curtail global interaction. How? A few ways in which this might happen are:

(a) Americans do much less personal, business, and scientific travel.

(b) American businesses pull back on international supply chains. This means producing more goods in the United States, both final and intermediate goods, rather than producing many of them overseas.

(c) Other countries are expected to behave in similar ways.

Each of these things may affect openness for economies in particular ways and possibly also affect productivity in the US. Consider the different ways these behaviors might affect productivity, in the following two parts to the question:
