Many universities, industry professionals, and organizations feel that operations management and project management go hand in hand. Indeed, often the degree programs are similar, and professional organizations like APICS provide certifications in both. Why do you think it is important for those who manage operations functions to understand project management techniques? How does a firm integrate principles of both operations management and project management to create customer value? Find and cite examples. Hello Class,

When I read the two terms of project management and operations management they sound almost alike and without doing any research will use very similar if not the same skillsets when in those positions. An article by Kelsey Miller defines a project or project manager as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. Business operations, on the other hand, are ongoing activities that produce long-term, repetitive outputs, such as manufacturing products or supplying services. As you can see here there are many similar aspects to these roles where one is more short term and the other being long term, but at the same time using the same skillset and even having the same responsibilities such as managing a team, working towards a goal, getting results, reporting progress to their supervisor or board. Both professions need common skills such as "effective communication, Time management, Leadership skills, organizational acumen, and even Problem solving or adaptability" (Miller, 2019). Any company can use both of these positions either together or separate to accomplish the main objective of the company where the project manager can come in and help to overseas a new expansion or product they want to bring in while the operations manager would continue to work with the ongoing products that are already being used and worked to maintain the efficiency of the company.
