Use Porters Five-Forces framework to assess the Nature of Chinas soft drink industry in comparison to industry dynamics in more developed soft drink market markets (e.g., the US). What are the main differences and similarities? Note: you are being asked to do a 5-forces analysis which includes looking at each of the 5-forces and outlining those forces that are present and the relative strength of those in regard to pressures each creates on sustainable profits.

Items to consider: As we move forward in class, we will look at various methods that firms use to manage horizontal and vertical value chains. This case discusses the prevalence of corporate partnerships in the development of Chinas beverage industry joint ventures, M&A, etc. I dont need a detailed analysis of these, but I just want you to be aware of the various modes of cooperation, acquisition and what we call governance structures that are employed and why & when each is utilized. Later in the course we will discuss economic rationale for when & where, and this case leads us into that discussion. So make sure to note where the article highlights examples and the economic rationale presented.
