Procedures:

  1. To become familiar with the applet start by selecting"silver" from the list of metals in the solids tab.
  2. All metals should have a mass of 50 g.
  3. In the metals box, move the mass slider to the right until it reads "50.0 g."
  4. All metals should be at an initial temperature of 100oC.
  5. In the metals box, move the temperature slider to the right until it reads "100oC."
  6. Click 'Show specific heat'
  7. Click 'Next', and then select water from the list of liquids.
  8. Choose the mass and temperature of the water as "50.0 g" and "20.0oC." You will also want to click 'Show specific heat'.
  9. Click 'Next' and then check 'Show graph view'. Then click "start" and record the final temperature in a data table
  10. Click "reset" and repeat the process for Unknown metals I and Unknown metal II.

Data:

  1. Make an appropriate data table for all three metals - including the data for the water in each trial. Your table should organize all your data (the name, mass, specific heat, measured temperatures, etc.)(40 points)

Calculations:
