Instructions:The main goal of this assignment is to give you some experience on how to use SPSS to test a hypothesis. After, you should be able to read SPSS output and make the proper inference based on the values found in the SPSS output.

Perform the instructions and answer the questions in the "To be included in your work" section.

A) Open the SPSS. Health reults will be located at bottom of page

Clicking on the data file should start the SPSS program automatically and your data will show up in an SPSS window. (Assuming you have the software installed on your computer)

B) This data are from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Center for Health Statistics, Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. It has a total of 80 cases (40 males and 40 females) with each case having values for 14 variables. Only work with 3 variables (Gender, Height, and Weight).

Note that in the lower left corner of your SPSS spreadsheet you will find two options:Data ViewandVariable View.

Clicking on the "Variable View" will show you the list of variables in the data with their characteristics. This is where you can modify the characteristics of variables. Clicking on the "Data View" will take you back to the actual values of the variables. This is where you can change the values of the variables.

To be included in your work:

1) I want all parts of a test of hypothesis shown in your write up including the computer output. Use SPSS to conduct a significance test (Test of hypothesis) to test the claim that themean height is different than 67. You do not have to separate males and females for this. SPSS will automatically use the two-sided alternative and produce a two-sided P-value (4thcell in bottom row of output). Base your decision on?=0.05. In order to use?=0.05, you will need to click "Options", type the appropriate confidence level in the box that would correspond to?=0.05. For example, if you want?=0.05, 1-0.05=0.95, and you would use the 95% confidence interval option. If you wanted?=0.02, 1-0.02=0.98, and you would use the 98% confidence interval option.

You can access the t-test procedure by choosing"Analyze"? "Compare Means" ? "One-Sample T-Test"

Put Height in the "Test Variable(s)" box and place the hypothesized value in the "Test Value" box. ClickOK.
