MATH 1343 Introduction to Biostatistics

Project 1

Due Date: 14^th Oct 2021

The project is designed for students to get some experience of typical statistical investigation in real world problems using relatively a small data set. Consider yourself as a statistician participating in a consulting project, who is going to solve the problem brought in by your client using the statistical knowledge you have. The analysis report should be well organized with proper use of terminology and quoting of references if necessary. Thereport should be typedinto a word, with numerical and graphicaloutputs properly presented and organized. The analysis is due on 13^th Oct 2021.

No any late work or hand-written reports will be accepted.

• Your response should be submitted in a word document.
• Please include a cover page with your name, course name and semester (Fall 2021) on it.
• Please include page numbers.
• Round mean, variance, IQR, median values to the second decimal place. Probabilities should be rounded to 4^th decimal place.

1. Find the Five number summary plus mean, variance, standard deviation (SD) and Inter Quartile Range (IQR) for Age, Tumor Size in mm, and Survival time in months. What can you say about the shape of the distribution of the three variables? [15 points]

1. Draw a histogram for Age of Patient at Diagnosis and their tumor sizes. What can you say about the distribution of Age and tumor size? Do you agree with the answer in question 1? [10 points]

1. From the given sample of Melanoma patients, which year has the higher diagnosis number of patients? Hint: Use Bar Chart show you the frequency. [10 points]
